  1. Running a gun serial number search is essential if you’re looking to buy a used gun from an individual or a dealer. While it is illegal for dealers to sell guns that have been lost, stolen or used in a crime and wanted by the police, it can happen. Private-party sales of stolen guns are also uncommon, but can occur.
  2. Us Revolver Co Serial Number Lookup Number Many Iver Johnson and U.S. Revolvers have a visible serial number on the trigger guard, under top strap, or bottom of butt. However except for earliest guns, the 'real' serial number is hidden on the grip strap under left grip panel (or one piece grip), with a letter prefix to identify the years made.

A friend of mine has an old 22 revolver that was found among his grandfather's possessions. It is a US Revolver Co 7 shot 22, solid frame revolver. These were manufactured by Iver Johnson. The serial number is 41936. I have the date of manufacture narrowed down to the 1911-1920 time frame, does anyone have any information that would get it to the year?
It is a neat old gun. The cylinder spins freely, but when you pull the hammer back, it locks firmly with perfect alignment on all 7 cylinder holes. The hammer will leave a deep impression on the rim.
If anyone has any information I would appreciate it. Also the cylinder is just barely long enough to chamber 22 LR. Does anyone know if this was designed for 22 LR, or just 22 longs? I have attached some pictures.
